Since attempting a drop goal is more difficult than a
penalty, I suggest that the kick roll should be LESS
than the ball skill number not equal to or less than.

A fair point and well worth exploring.

In the Rugby Sevens Rules it states that a ball skill of 6 is used for a drop-goal irrespective of the players ball skill. Why not try this in the 15 a side game.

Also as forwards and wingers very rarely attempt such kicks I would also implement that only the following players can attempt a drop goal.
Scrum-Half 9
Fly Half 10
Centre 12
Centre 13

I am interested to know how often coaches make use of the drop goal. I know that on paper it seems like an easy 3 points, but for some reason I very rarely see it being used. I personally prefer to go for the try when I am within kicking distance... but that is probably because I love the glory of a try...

I find the drop goal, in reality, is actually quite difficult to setup, and now with the cover defense rules it can be defended against.

I think I will put a voting pole up to see everyones opinions... it's interesting.

In the last game we played this week-end the only 3 points scored were from a 10 kicking a drop.
(maybe due to players good in defense and not so in attacking I don't know)
But the drop showed itself as a very good option to score in this match as breaking through the defense would have been very hard in this circumstances.
A far enough kick not to be under pressure and close enough to be easy to score, with a ten it's not so difficult.

On the list proposed for players allowed to drop I would add the 15.

I agree with Cynwall that the Full-Back 15 should perhaps be included as a player with a drop-kick ability.
I did not include him as I would not think that it would be in a players best interest to have him that far up the field to attempt a drop.

I don't think drop-kicks should be attempted if you are closer than 5 spaces from the target hexagon.
I have been experimenting with a designated drop-kick zone which starts from the hexagon 5 back from the centre red target hexagon, then back to the 10th. From the centre points above then each hexagon diagonally forward towards the try-line until level or just behind the furthest centre 5 position is included as part of the zone.
Use a kicking length for drop-kicks of 11 - green dice roll on a ball skill of 6 for designated players.
If you put counters in these positions as a guide then slightly darken the outline around the edges of the hexagons this makes the zone clear to see.

Any thoughts on my idea of designated players to attempt drop-kicks and only within a set drop-kick zone. My reasoning was that I thought it a bit far fetched to be too close to the try-line or to wide to attempt a kick.

We would need to test them - I plan to pay a game where I will attempt to score via drop goal where-ever possible and have my opponent play his normal CT game play - I am interested to see how the game will unfold.

Personally I never go for a drop goal unless I need to win a game, but this might be influence by actually rugby tactics rather then what is best in Crash Tackle.

the fact that a number of coaches express concern is interesting...

Isn't it ironic that after having this discussion on how often coaches attempt drop goals, the Bulls drop kick their way to a Super 14 finally against the Crusaders and set a Super rugby record of 4 drop goals in a game!

A vast majority of Drop Goal attempts seem to be taken directly upon receiving a pass from a team mate.I cannot think of a player running 20 yards with ball in hand adn then taking a drop attempt.
For instance a scrum is won and the scrum-half passes the ball to the fly-half who then without moving takes a drop.
Do you not think that a player should only be able to attempt a drop immediately upon receiving a pass.

Drop kicks can only be made if the player has not moved that turn.
