Defensive Tactics

The Rush Defense is one of the most feared and exhilarating defensive tactics in rugby union. It is also the riskiest! Creating a Rush Defense is now possible with the introduction of the Crash Tackle Cover Defense Rules.

Coaches can now use the Cover Defense markers to get to, and make tackles on, opposition players protected by the off-side line. This means players now need to be more careful about how they position their players at rucks, line-outs and scrums because a well positioned Cover Defense marker could have you on the back foot.

Because the cover defense marker is allowed to be placed in off-side positions (as long as the player used to make the tackle is on-side) it allows you to reach out and put pressure on opposition players behind the off-side lines
